Passivent has supplied its hybrid ventilation system to Vertis for a new modular building at Sutton Valence School, one of the oldest private schools in Kent. This new building replaces a dilapidated temporary classroom block and now houses their Religious Studies hub which comprises of 3 classrooms, an office, a storeroom and lobby.
Vertis provided the school with a more efficient building with a distinctive attractive design that made better use of the space available. The classrooms have been equipped with ducted and non-ducted versions of the Passivent Hybrid Plus2 Aircool ventilator which extracts the stale air and replaces the classrooms with fresh air whilst optimising CO2 levels. A 3-zone, iC8000 intelligent controller, CO2 sensors and temperature sensors were also supplied to control the ventilation system, along with ducting, 4-way diffusers (for supply air) and egg crate grilles (for return air).
The units have 3 modes of operation to help maintain a more thermally comfortable environment for the students. The mixing mode utilises the fan to minimise the risks of cold draughts in colder weather whilst in warmer weather the fan is activated without mixing to promote air movement and to assist with purging the space of heat more rapidly than the passive mode. The passive mode operates without fan assistance making it highly cost effective and more energy efficient. The unit also meets the requirements of Building Bulletin 101 (Guidelines on ventilation, thermal comfort and indoor air quality in schools) and Building Bulletin 93 (Acoustic design of schools: performance standards)
