Passivent supports early design collaboration outlined by CIBSE AM10 update

Passivent, one of the UK’s leading natural and hybrid ventilation specialists, has welcomed the latest changes to guidance published by CIBSE in its most recent Applications Manual AM10 – Natural Ventilation in Non‑Domestic Buildings and the clarity this has brought to the industry. The guide sets out a clearer, more practical framework for delivering natural ventilation in modern buildings, addressing common gaps between design intent and actual performance. It supports better decision‑making throughout the design process helping teams assess when natural ventilation is suitable and how to apply it appropriately to create comfortable, low energy buildings. The guidance also recognises that hybrid or mechanical systems may, in some cases, offer the better solution.

The updated AM10 encourages designers to evaluate building form, airflow routes, external constraints and overheating risk at the feasibility stage before committing to a natural ventilation strategy. As a project moves from concept to a workable system it links common ventilation strategies such as cross-flow and stack effect to building geometry and stresses the importance of integrating components, controls and user interaction.
