DECEMBER 08 - PASSIVELY TAKING THE STRESS OUT OF SAP CALCULATIONS

The hassle of ensuring a new-build or renovation project complies with new
energy efficiency criteria is being alleviated with a new service.
Passivent, the UK’s leading supplier of ventilation solutions for domestic
and commercial buildings, has introduced its accredited SAP calculation service
to provide both advice on helping ensure the building achieves compliance with
both Building Regulations’ Approved Document Part L and the Code for
Sustainable Homes via the recognised procedure, and physical calculation of
the energy performance of the building.
Legislation already in force requires domestic property for sale or rent,
and public buildings, to have an Energy Performance Certificate, giving a rating
from A to F for the structure’s energy efficiency and carbon emissions.
SAP- or Standard Assessment Procedure- provides the basis for the Certificate,
calculating both the Target Emission Rate (TER) and Dwelling Emission Rate
(DER). The system takes a holistic approach, and is calculated on the whole
building including thermal insulation of the building fabric, efficiency of
the heating system, ventilation characteristics, solar gain and fuel.
Elaborates Stephen Smith, Passivent Domestic Product Manager, “Because
the SAP calculation is based on the whole building, it can be confusing to
know the most effective way to achieve compliance and a good DER. By offering
a comprehensive range of both natural and mechanical ventilation systems, we
are dealing with issues such as energy performance all the time, and can give
independent advice on the most efficient way to achieve the best rating in
each individual situation. Further, because the ventilation is designed early
in the construction stage, we can not only calculate the predicted SAP rating,
but advise on ways it can be improved, without major implications in cost and
disruption. And our service is accredited, meaning our calculations will form
recognised Energy Performance Certificates. All we need are the building drawings
and some other basic information- leave the rest to us!”
Application for the Passivent SAP service can be undertaken by contacting
the company by telephone (0161 962 7113), email (info@passivent.com)
or via www.passivent.com.
The SAP service compliments Passivent’s range of systems for both domestic
and commercial buildings, which includes BBA certified intelligent Passive
Stack Ventilation (iPSV), Positive Input Ventilation (PIV), Mechanical
Extract Ventilation, plus a spectrum of background window and through-wall
ventilation solutions. Passivent is part of the Building Product Design Group
which incorporates Glidevale (roofing and ventilation), Z-Led (damp-proofing
solutions), and Kingfisher Louvre Systems (ventilation and solar shading louvre
systems) all of which aim to bring to market innovative yet practical products
in line with changing requirements.
