AUGUST 08 - ECO-FRIENDLY VENTILATION ON-LINE

Designing and costing ventilation for a new home has become even simpler, with
the launch of a new website.
www.passiventselfbuild.com contains
all the information necessary to ensure the property- be it an apartment or
house- retains a fresh, dry and draught-free internal environment- sustainably.
The site explains how passive ventilation works, without using any electricity,
and enables easy, on-line, design, specification and costing of the system
for the property.
Katie Warne, Passivent Product Manager elaborates, “The drive towards
reducing energy consumption in the home means passive ventilation is increasingly
being chosen as the ideal solution to meet the legal Building Regulations requirement
for background ventilation. Our research shows SAP assessors believe it to
be one of the most effective means of ventilation to help achieve the Code
for Sustainable Homes Level 3- the base requirement now for social housing,
and the minimum for private build from 2012.
“It is now therefore appropriate to help everyone- from architects through
builders to self-builders- understand how the system functions, how to properly
design it, and how much it costs, and to provide that information in as self-explanatory,
accessible and easy-to-use a format as possible!”
BBA approved, Passivent Intelligent Passive Stack Ventilation (iPSV)
works by harnessing natural air movement principles, in which warm air rises.
Humidity sensitive extracts in the ‘wet’ kitchen, bathroom(s) and
en-suite trigger to remove the warm, ‘used’, damp air; strategically
placed inlets draw in fresh replacement air, avoiding damp and condensation
accumulating in the home. There are no mechanical fans to consume energy, require
maintenance or break down. The lack of fans also means there is no noise! Additionally,
there is no need for the occupant involvement, turning the system on or off,
as it functions continuously, 24/7, monitoring humidity levels and extracting
when appropriate.
Passivent iPSV is just part of the Passivent range, which includes trickle
ventilators, the Fresh range of through wall ventilators, plus BBA- certified ‘whole
house’ natural and mechanical ventilation solutions, with or without
acoustic options. All of these contribute towards efficient ventilation of the
home with little or no energy consumption. Passivent is part of the Building
Product Design Group, which specialises in developing innovative yet practical
ventilation and roofing products in line with changing market requirements.
