DECEMBER 07 - ‘GREEN’ AIR SOLUTIONS

PSVVentilation solutions that optimise zero carbon strategies are being highlighted by Passivent Ltd at 2008 Ecobuild.

One of the UK’s leading suppliers of natural ventilation systems, Passivent has developed a new option for the domestic market- both private and social housing- iMEV (Intelligent Mechanical Extract Ventilation), complimenting the established zero-energy Passive Stack Ventilation system.

Passivent Domestic Product Manager Stephen Smith, elaborates, “Most of the time do we really know when humidity levels are increasing and ventilation is required: often, it is only when windows are streaming with condensation that it becomes an issue. And do we always want, or remember, to turn on AND off extract fans with the noise they can generate, or open windows because of the cold draughts? Passivent iMEV removes those pressures on us, allowing the residents to get on and enjoy life, in an energy-efficient way. Passivent PSV goes even further, constantly ensuring a damp- and draught-free environment without ANY electrical consumption!”

Passivent iMEV integrates ‘intelligent’ extracts and an ‘intelligent’ fan within a central extract system for the house or multi-occupancy building such as apartments, student accommodation, nursing homes and hotels. The extracts open and close in response to varying levels of humidity. The central fan is constantly monitoring the extracted air and as it detects the humidity content is more than a pre-set level, it boosts the extraction rate. As the extract will be open only in a room with a high level of humidity, boosted extraction will only take place in that room. As the system is completely automatic and zoned, it only extracts the required amount of air, wasting no energy. The fan itself further minimises electrical usage, being low energy DC powered.

Passivent Passive Stack harnesses natural air movement principles, and thus uses no electricity. Using planned air paths through the home, extracts exhaust the warm, ‘used’ air out through roof terminals via the venturi effect, with convection providing the impetus to draw fresh air in from outside through strategically placed inlets.

iMEVBoth iMEV and PSV work without any occupier input, and ensures the interior remains fresh, dry and odour- and condensation-free 24/7, even when the building is unoccupied. The systems will be demonstrated at Ecobuild on stand E556.

Passivent is the only natural ventilation supplier to offer independent BBA certification across its range, proven in use for over 20 years. It also supplies a comprehensive range of background trickle ventilators, the Fresh range of through wall ventilators, with or without acoustic options - all of which contribute towards efficient ventilation of the home with little or no energy consumption.

Passivent is part of the Building Product Design Group, which specialises in developing innovative yet practical ventilation and roofing products in line with changing market requirements.
