JULY 07 - PASSIVELY HELP IMPROVE HEALTH

Fresh TLF wall vent The incidence of dust and pollen related allergy attacks can be reduced simply with an innovative ventilation filter.

Passivent, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of natural ventilation solutions, has pioneered a special environmental filter, for use with its Fresh TLF wall vent. The filter cartridge is simply slotted into the wall duct, where its polypropylene fibres attract, electrostatically, even the minutest particles from the incoming air, helping alleviate the effects of allergies and asthma by preventing those attack-triggering dusts entering the internal environment. The filter has been independently tested by IVL (Swedish Environmental Research Institute), where it complied with filter class F7.

Maintenance of the filter is minimal, involving the simple removal and replacement of the filter after approximately 12 months, dependant on local pollution levels. The discarded filter is also environmentally friendly, being totally recyclable.

David Pitt, Passivent Domestic Product Manager, explains, “The UK has one of the highest occurrences of asthma in the world, and its incidence is increasing: 5.1m people currently suffer from it- at least three times the figure for 25 years ago- and 1500 of them die each year! GPs see some 18,000 new cases relating to asthma attacks each week! Whilst its cause is unknown, it is accepted that environmental pollution and poorly ventilated homes are among the prime factors. If simply popping a filter into the home’s ventilation helps reduce those figures and improve people’s air quality and health generally , surely that has got to be good?”

The filter is exclusively available for the Passivent Fresh TLF through wall ventilator, which provides discreet background ventilation in line with Building Regulation Approved Document F1, drawing fresh air through the wall, and, via its innovative design, directing the incoming air upwards, avoiding draughts and potential discomfort for the room occupants. It requires no electrical connection, functioning purely on air pressure differences. The Fresh TLF features an innovative “iris damper” controller, adjusted through a slider hidden behind the internal fascia, allowing the flow rate to be regulated to precise requirements.

An acoustic version- Fresh TLFDB- gives up to 47dB acoustic attenuation, making it ideal for providing gentle background ventilation on brownfield or noisy sites.

Passivent is the only natural ventilation supplier to offer independent BBA certification across its range, proven in use for over 20 years. In addition to its Fresh range of through wall ventilators,, it supplies a comprehensive range of background trickle ventilators, plus a comprehensive selection of natural and assisted ventilation solutions, with or without acoustic options. Passivent is part of the Building Product Design Group, which specialises in developing innovative yet practical ventilation and roofing products in line with changing market requirements.
