JUNE 07 - FRESH APPROACH TO QUIET

Acoustic wall cowl

A fresh approach to reducing sound transmission into buildings through ventilation inlets is being introduced by Passivent Ltd.

The company, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of natural ventilation solutions, has developed an acoustic wall cowl for use with its full range of Fresh acoustic through wall ventilators. The cowl provides a further 2dB Dn,e,w  sound attenuation, without impacting on the vent’s performance in providing background ventilation in line with Approved Document F1. The cowl’s noise insulation performance brings the acoustic attenuation for elements of the Fresh range to over 50dB Dn,e,w.

The cowl has been deliberately styled to simultaneously enhance the external façade aesthetics and reduce risk of damage to the vent. AA fire rated, the cowl is manufactured from ABS so is also resistant to UV and atmospheric attack. It is supplied with vandal resistant security screws to be easy to fix yet difficult to remove without appropriate tools. An integral aluminium grille below resists passage of insects into the vent and potentially the building.

Available in a range of standard finishes to blend in with traditional stone, render and brickwork, the cowl can be matched to any RAL colour required.

Passivent has purpose-designed the cowl to be used in conjunction with the full range of Passivent Fresh acoustic wall vents, which provide through-wall controllable, background ventilation, without draughts and risk of weather or insect penetration, and eliminating risk of condensation.

Passivent is the only natural ventilation supplier to offer independent BBA certification across its range, proven in use for over 20 years. In addition to the Fresh range of through wall ventilators, it supplies a full range of background trickle ventilators, plus a comprehensive selection of natural and assisted ventilation solutions, with or without acoustic options. Passivent is part of the Building Product Design Group, which specialises in developing innovative yet practical ventilation and roofing products in line with changing market requirements.
