MAY 07 - THREE INTO ONE DOES GO!

The problems of ensuring appropriate background ventilation in brownfield or other noisy environments are overcome with one innovative new product from Passivent Ltd.
The Humidity Sensitive Acoustic vent TVES4DB efficiently combines through-frame trickle ventilation with acoustic attenuation AND humidity control. The combination ensures with one, easy to install unit, the internal environment remains fresh, damp-free and as peaceful as possible, in line with relevant Building Regulations and Planning Policy Guidance.
Passivent TVES4DB provides 2760mm2 equivalent ventilation area per vent, plus sound reduction through the window of up to 39dB, in excess of the reduction provided by standard double glazing. Unlike conventional through-frame tricklevents, it further provides humidity control, automatically opening and closing without any occupant involvement, depending on the internal humidity level, to ensure the correct level of ventilation is achieved whilst minimizing unnecessary heat loss.
Easy to install, the through-frame vent requires two routed slots of 160mm x
12mm through the window frame, with a 10mm blank between. The unit is simply
screwed into position, in conjunction with Passivent’s external Canopy Grille.
It is available in white, brown or black, to blend discreetly with standard window finishes; other colours are available to special order.
David Pitt, Passivent Domestic Product Manager, elaborates, “Pressure to maximize a building’s energy efficiency and create ‘sealed envelopes’ has
increased the importance of ventilation, reflected in the recent amendments to
Building Regulations Approved Document F1: Means of Ventilation. This, combined
with the growth in regeneration of brownfield sites, encouraged by the Government
and often in noisy locations, is creating a challenge for architects and developers
to provide both sufficient ventilation whilst maintaining sound insulation.
“Daily domestic life- washing, bathing, even breathing, generates significant
volumes of water vapour: up to 24 pints in a day! That water vapour must be removed
to avoid damage to both the building fabric through condensation and our health
through living in a damp atmosphere which can cause numerous respiratory diseases.
All those issues are resolved in one with our new vent, which can provide both
effective background ventilation and sound attenuation.”
The new TVES4DB complements Passivent’s comprehensive range of background ventilators
including over- and through-frame window tricklevents, the Fresh range of through
wall ventilators, plus a comprehensive selection of natural and mechanical ventilation
solutions, with or without acoustic options. Passivent is part of the Building
Product Design Group, which specialises in developing innovative yet practical
ventilation and roofing products in line with changing market requirements.
