JANUARY 07 - PASSIVENT HELPS MAINTAIN VENTILATION INTEGRITY IN STATE-OF-ART HOSPITAL
Patients at one of the UK’s first
Foundation Trust hospitals can rest assured of as healthy
an environment as possible through the ventilation in
the wards.
Stepping Hill Hospital’s new £25million,
four storey Cardiology & Surgical Unit is the largest
Foundation Hospital Procure 21 contract to date, housing
four theatres, a 32 bed short stay unit, 8 bed coronary
care ward and 21 bed clinical management unit. The Unit
at the Stockport, Greater Manchester Hospital is due
for completion in the summer, and incorporates Passivent
Overglass Vent Bars in the 120 aluminium windows in the
facades to the habitable rooms. Each window includes
two vent bars, to provide the Regulatory requirement
of 8000mm2 ventilation area/habitable room.
Specified by architects for the project Taylor Young,
to compliment existing windows in the adjoining hospital
building, the vents were fitted into the windows by sub
contractor Lakesmere. Alan Dawson of Lakesmere explained, “The
Overglass Vent Bars are the only way to keep the integrity
of the window. Other methods could cause air leakage,
pressure equalisation and water ingress problems. Trickle
ventilation had to be included in line with Building
Regulations, and the use of Overglass Vent Bars is a
more cost effective, and possibly healthier way, of achieving
that than by using air conditioning, as they draw fresh
air in from outside and do not recirculate ‘used’ air.”
Passivent Overglass Vent Bars are available in lengths
from 450mm and are supplied ready fitted with a vent
to provide appropriate airflow into the building and
grille for protection against weather and insect ingress.
The vents meet the worst case requirements of BS6375
Part 1 for resistance to water penetration.
Installed above the glass in the window frame, the aluminium
Vent Bars are thermally broken and reduce risk of condensation
on the vent and prevent over- or under-ventilation in
the room.
Passivent is the only natural ventilation supplier to offer
a 12 years insurance backed design and product warranty
with the added comfort of independent BBA certification,
proven in use for over 20 years. Passivent is part of the
Building Product Design Group, which specialises in developing
innovative yet practical ventilation and roofing products
in line with changing market requirements.
